Shoe Box Program
When Linda Burnside heard about the Samaritan’s Purse Shoe Box program, she was immediately excited to suggest it to church members. Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational ministry that reaches out to people in need throughout the world. Through the Shoebox Program at Christmastime, partnering churches fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and hygiene items to show God’s love to children in need. We were offered 50 complimentary boxes. That seemed like a lot for our small church, but we accepted the challenge.
On Sunday, October 29, following our church service, all the donations were spread out on three tables, according to the three age categories. We were absolutely dumbfounded by the variety and number of toys, school supplies, socks, soccer balls w/ pumps and so much more. Ten women and three teenage boys filled the boxes. It was such fun and so rewarding to see the happy faces of everyone working on this project. We filled 35 boxes, with 15 additional boxes being filled by a local 4H group.
We thank church members, friends and 4H members for their donations and time that made this endeavor such a success!
We hope to do this every year.
