Chancel Dramas – next 6 Sundays thru Easter
To add some spice to the next six Sunday Services, starting Sunday March 16, 2014, through Easter, Crystal Springs Players will be performing the serial play “Whose Cross Is It Anyway.”
Chancel dramas are very small, short plays performed in the chancel area in front of a church to enhance the service. This drama reveals how people make excuses for not wanting Jesus in their lives. It is given in six parts, one each Sunday during Lent. Each segment is only 5-10 minutes long and involves 2-4 players.
Below is the basic plot line for “Whose Cross Is It Anyway“:
Special delivery! All throughout Lent, the Jerusalem Parcel Service (JPS) man tries to unload a “Cross” in a package he is tasked to deliver.
Following the company’s motto of “prompt delivery service anywhere in Israel,” the JPS man takes the package to disciples John and Andrew, a church secretary and a woman concerned that the contents may not match the decor of her home. All of them refuse delivery, even though the Cross comes free and undeserved.
During each week of Lent, the special delivery package makes the rounds to many customers with surprising, funny and moving results. Mary Magdalene already has a cross. Martha would rather make her own. Peter denies having anything to do with it. Judas says he doesn’t deserve it.
The final concluding drama on Easter Sunday features selling the Cross that was in the package. The price? FREE. Someone already paid.
If you would ever like to participate in drama, even if to only play an extremely easy bit part or do something behind the scenes, please see more information at Crystal Springs Players and Drama Club.
