What: Getting to Know American Muslims and their Faith
This presentation will include:
- A description of the major beliefs and practices of Islam, including major Muslim holidays
- Information on the faith’s principal theological teachings, including its relation to Judaism and Christianity
- Common misconceptions about Islam and Muslims
- Basic terminology and the demographics of Muslims in the United States and the world
The presenter’s bio: Maha Elgenaidi is the founder of Islamic Network Group (ING). She is the author of training handbooks on outreach for American Muslims as well as training seminars for public institutions on developing cultural competency with the American Muslim community. A senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum and recently named by the San Jose Business Journal as one of Silicon Valley’s Women of Influence, Maha has been recognized with numerous civil rights awards, including the “Civil Rights Leadership Award” from the California Association of Human Relations Organizations and the “Citizen of the Year” award from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. She earned a master’s degree in Religious Studies from Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Economics from the American University in Cairo.
